You’ll have a great time talking about the old days, but the main thing the young folks will learn is how to think like you. That’s where the wisdom is.

When children hear their elders’ stories, they learn how to act like adults before they turn into them.

When children of the first TV generation reached adulthood, they had to “find themselves.” Why? Because TV can’t take the place of elder stories. Your stories are a vital link in your family’s Chain of Wisdom. Don’t let it break on your watch.

Wear this pin when you’ll be around adults and they’ll remember that elders are an excellent source of advice.

There’s a good chance you’ve experienced whatever troubles they’re wrestling with. Even if you didn’t have the problem, you probably knew someone who did.

You don’t have to know everything about everything to wear this pin. It just says, “Elders have answers.” It doesn’t say anything about the answers being correct!

The real benefit of your advice is the attitude, values, and beliefs woven between your words. They come from your lifetime of learning and transfer to the listener as you speak.

Anything you say will help the advice-seeker … and you! Giving advice makes elders feel great.

Conversations between elders often turn to physical problems. Maybe your friends don’t realize these are only problems when they’re trying to be productive, the focus of adulthood. Health “problems” often turn us into better storytellers and advice-givers, allowing us to enjoy elderhood better. And when we do that, we get healthier.

Wear this pin when you’ll be with elders and you’ll get to tell stories of elderhood, second puberty, tals, the Chain of Wisdom, and other topics that have recently energized your outlook on life.

… and don’t forget to tell them about elderhood.com

Set of three elderhood story-starters. One for children, one for adults, and one for elders.

Heirloom Stories from the Harnessmaker’s Son – by Rick Kamen and Jack Kamen

43 elder-stories from Brooklyn in the early 1900s. There are stories about pushcarts, the first radios, Model Ts, outhouses, iceboxes, chicken markets, and much more.

You can’t read one of these stories without remembering one of your own. When you do, stop reading and  write your story the way we write: short, in the first person, and ending with a twist. Send copies to your grandkids and you’ll be entertaining and educating your descendants centuries from now.

Writing these stories added at least 5  years to Jack’s life and centuries to his memory. But the most important benefit was that it felt great. More about Jack.

Read sample stories here, here, and here.
